So I have jaws 16 latest version and windows 7. I get a news letter that asks me to download the latest flash player to read it. When I try that, jaws says close the following program to continue, internet explorer. The download gets to 50 percent. Any ideas how I can make the download work for flash latest version?

That sounds like a scam. IE already should have flash if it's the latest version, and most things are going away from flash anyways. I'd be very careful with this.

Yes. Go directly to adobe.com and get it.
Flash had some issues last few weeks, but they've been fixed they say.
You can do a search to get you there to.
Say
download Adobe flash player.

Let’s talk a bit about Adobe Flash Player.
If you use IE 11 and up, or Windows 8.1/10, flash player is already in the program, so you don’t need to install it.
If you have Firefox, or other browsers, you might need to do so.
If you just want to install it anyway, do the following.
Go to
https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Find the one you want.
By default, you don’t have to look, because it is chosen for you, but you’ll find a link that says install it for another computer as well.
You will need to use a different browser to get it installed manually, because remember, it is already in IE, so when you go to this page, you’ll get that information instead.
Note, Adobe offers optional stuff that can be downloaded. I uncheck these things, because I feel they sometimes interfere with other security programs.
You might need to turn off your security program during the install. Most times you don’t.
You can get them however if you like, and remove them at a later time if they aren’t working for you.
Instead of selecting run when you are downloading it, select save.
It saves to your chosen location.
Close up your browser and go to the saved download, and now you can install it.
Second note, after installed, you will see the message you have seen to update flash player.
Once you have it started, manually close browsers if open before installing it.
Usually you’ll see the update message in your systems tray for easy access, but if not, using the pop up is good.
Adobe in my opinion is only useful if you like to use video content on websites. If not, you don't need it really.
Many use it, so it is a active tool to have.

Thanks. I looked in my programs and it did update so I will wait a few days to re read the emnail I got from my dental group. Lots of graphics in the email too, so this may be part of the problem.

I forgot to say.
If you need to check if it is updated in IE.
Go to control panel.
Type the letter F or locate flash player.
You can click that one an to check it.
I just update it when I get the message.
Currently, I don't have it installed for other browsers.

I actually just had the same thing happen to me when I tried to download Flash. The download got to 50% and then told me that I needed to close not only IE but also the installer itself. What the hell? I even followed Wayne's suggestion of saving the installation file and running it after I closed IE. And the damn thing was still telling me to close IE!

I wouldn't even have had to mess with any of this if it weren't for the fact that the version of Flash that I was running before had somehow put itself on "mute" (not for the first time), and I couldn't access the player controls to unmute it. I'd been running the latest version, so I thought I'd just uninstall and then re-install it. But it literally refused to leave my computer. It would get to the "uninstall" window and just sit there! So I just said to hell with it and tried to re-install it anyway, which is when I got the message about closing IE and the installer.

I really want this nonsense to stop, once and for all. I'm sick of my player controls rarely showing up when I use Flash with IE. Admittedly, I don't have that problem when I use it with Firefox, but I hate using Firefox. If anyone has managed to resolve the IE Flash issues, I would appreciate some insight! I'm running Windows 7, IE 11, JAWS 15, and the latest Flash.

Go in to control panel. Look for flash player 32 bit and open that.
You can work with it there for IE.

Tried that. Didn't work.

Click_Clash, I had almost the exact thing happen to me last week. I had to do some online training for work and was on a very official work website and got the link off of their page. Trying to install, I kept getting the close program and then click continue and it was telling me to close the version of flash I was trying to install and didn't have.
After several attempts, I gave up. The next day, I tried installing and this time got a message that my download was from an untrustworthy site. Arrgh! After that, I did my training on a work computer.

Interesting indeed.
Adobe was having some problems, but these are suppose to be fixed.
I don't use it, so am not bothered, but I can see how it be an issue.
If I needed it, I'd contact adobe on the issue.

Well, I managed to get my flash player off of "mute". I'd given up for the moment and had been watching YouTube on Firefox. And then I was on I
E this morning doing something completely unrelated to video-watching, and I happened to see a frame containing flash player controls on the site I was browsing. So I finally unmuted the damn thing. Kind of a weird fix, and hopefully only a temporary one, but I'll be remembering it the next time I'm on Youtube and my flash player randomly decides to mute itself.

For you that are having trouble with this I thought of an idea that may work for you.
Suppose you uninstalled flash from your system completely, then reinstall it fresh?
Just an idea.
